Author Guidelines

The Journal of Oral and Dental Health Nexus (JODHN) welcomes original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, case reports, and clinical studies related to oral and dental health sciences. Authors must follow these guidelines when preparing and submitting their manuscripts to ensure consistency, transparency, and adherence to ethical publishing standards.


1. Manuscript Categories

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles: Reports on new research findings, including experimental studies, clinical trials, and epidemiological studies.
  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses: Comprehensive literature reviews that follow PRISMA guidelines.
  • Case Reports: Detailed descriptions of rare or unique cases in dental and oral health practice.
  • Short Communications: Concise reports on preliminary findings or new methodologies.
  • Letters to the Editor: Commentary or critiques on recently published articles.
  • Editorials: Invited perspectives from experts in the field.

2. General Manuscript Preparation

2.1. Formatting

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English.
  • Use Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
  • Double-spaced text with 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12.
  • Page numbers must appear at the bottom right of each page.
  • Line numbers must be included for easy reference during peer review.

2.2. Structure of Manuscript

Manuscripts should be structured as follows:

Title Page

  • Title of the manuscript (concise and descriptive).
  • Full names of all authors, including highest academic degrees.
  • Institutional affiliations of each author.
  • Corresponding author details: name, institution, postal address, email, and phone number.

Abstract

  • Abstracts must be structured as follows: Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion.
  • Maximum word count: 250 words.
  • No citations in the abstract.

Keywords

  • Provide 3 to 6 keywords that reflect the core content of the study.
  • Use MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms where applicable.

Introduction

  • Clearly state the background, rationale, and objectives of the study.
  • Cite relevant literature in NLM style.
  • End with a clear research hypothesis or aim.

Methods

  • Provide a detailed description of the study design, population, sample size calculation, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and ethical considerations.
  • Mention ethical approval from a recognized Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Clearly describe data collection tools, interventions, and statistical analysis methods.

Results

  • Present findings in a clear, logical manner.
  • Use tables and figures where necessary (refer to the tables and figures within the text).
  • Do not interpret results in this section.

Discussion

  • Compare findings with previously published research.
  • Discuss implications, limitations, and areas for future research.

Conclusion

  • Provide a concise summary of findings without repeating data.

Acknowledgments

  • Recognize contributions from individuals or organizations that do not meet authorship criteria.

Funding Statement

  • Clearly state any sources of funding or declare “No funding received.”

Conflict of Interest Statement

  • Authors must disclose any financial, academic, or personal conflicts of interest.

3. References

  • The journal follows NLM style for citations and references.
  • Number references consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text.
  • Use superscript numbers for in-text citations.
  • Provide a full reference list at the end of the manuscript.
  • Use PubMed abbreviations for journal names.

4. Tables and Figures

  • Tables should be numbered consecutively and include a descriptive title.
  • Figures must be high resolution (300 dpi minimum) and submitted in JPEG or TIFF format.
  • Provide figure legends and clearly label all axes and data points.

5. Ethical Considerations

5.1. Plagiarism Policy

  • All manuscripts are screened using iThenticate.
  • Any manuscript with a similarity index above 15% may be rejected.

5.2. Human and Animal Ethics

  • Research involving humans must comply with Helsinki Declaration guidelines.
  • Animal studies must adhere to ARRIVE (Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments) guidelines.

6. Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted via the journal’s online submission system.

  • The corresponding author is responsible for all communications with the editorial office.
  • A cover letter should be included, explaining the manuscript’s significance and confirming that it has not been submitted elsewhere.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
